Environmental Statement
The amount of recycled materials used in the manufacture of Sturdy/
Framac chairs varies widely depending on the model of the chair.
For
a Quasar QU25, typical of a task chair, the major components and
their use of recycled materials is tabulated below;
 |
Mechanism - 38% of chair weight. Made from BHP steel,
which has 15 - 20% scrap content. |
 |
Seat pan, bellows and back - 9% of weight. Polypropylene
sourced from various suppliers, up to 30% recycled material |
 |
5 Star base - glass/mineral filled nylon, must use
virgin material to achieve performance requirements |
 |
Cushions - polyurethane, must use virgin material to
achieve performance requirements |
 |
Fabrics, plywood seat and back, base, gas strut and castors - very
low recycled content |
It may seem that almost half the weight of a typical task chair
will contain recycled materials. Recycled materials make up approximately
10% of the total weight of a Quasar QU25 chair. As well as making
chairs, Sturdy/ Framac is a major supplier of components to the
chair industry through its Transfurn Division. Sturdy/ Framac is
confident that our use of recycled materials in manufacture is
equal to best practise for equivalent chairs made in Australia.
